An auxiliary to the Indian Police, the Indian Home Guard is a body which is responsible for enforcing and maintaining order within the community in any kind of emergency. The main duties of a home guard is to help in maintenance of essential services, promote communal harmony, assist the administration in protecting weaker sections, participate in socio-economic and welfare activities and perform Civil Defense duties.
